Before UPESSC took over, the UP Examination Regulatory Authority held two written exams for primary assistant teachers: the 2018 exam for 68,500 posts and the 2019 exam (ATRE) for 69,000 posts. Both are commonly called Super TET. Their papers are the closest guide to the kind of language, mathematics, pedagogy and child psychology questions that UP sets for primary teachers, which is why they are the first practice material for Super TET 2026 (exam on 3 and 4 December 2026).

What the earlier papers show
- Language carried the most weight then, as now. The 2019 paper opened with Hindi grammar and literature (suffixes, one-word substitutes, tatsam words, authors and literary periods), and the 2018 paper with English grammar and comprehension; both had Sanskrit and Hindi sections too. In 2026, language has 30 of the 120 questions.
- Pedagogy and child psychology were factual and D.El.Ed-based. Questions asked about educational thinkers (for example, Herbart), institutions such as the NCTE, constitutional provisions on education, evaluation (diagnostic tests) and teaching methods. The 2026 syllabus keeps these at the D.El.Ed level.
- Mathematics was school level. Arithmetic, algebraic expressions and basic geometry questions appear in both papers. The 2026 syllabus lists similar areas, up to class 12.
- GK was static plus current affairs. Expect a larger share of current affairs in 2026, which has a separate 25-question section for events, awards, sports and UP-specific news.
How to use these papers for Super TET 2026
- Solve the 2019 paper first, in a single sitting with a timer, and check it against the series A key at the end of the PDF.
- Mark each question by subject using the 2026 syllabus table, and note which subjects cost you the most time.
- Score yourself the 2026 way, +3 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong one, to see how much negative marking would have cost you.
- Skip the old current-affairs questions; their content is out of date. Use them only to see the type of question.
- Move to fresh practice: timed sets with negative marking in each subject until the exam.
Qualifying marks in the 2019 exam
For the 2019 exam, the UP government fixed the minimum qualifying marks at 65% for general category candidates and 60% for reserved category candidates (97 and 90 out of 150). The decision was challenged, and was upheld by the Allahabad High Court and then by the Supreme Court in 2020. The 2026 advertisement says the cut-off will be published on the website after the selection is complete.
