How the SSC CGL cut-off works
- Minimum qualifying marks: UR 30%, OBC/EWS 25%, others 20%, in Tier-I and in each section of Tier-II Paper-I (notice para 16.1).
- Tier-I is for shortlisting only. Its cut-off decides who sits Tier-II; it is not added to the final merit.
- Normalisation: marks from multiple shifts are normalised, which is why Tier-I cut-offs have decimals.
- Computer Knowledge Test and DEST are qualifying. Some posts (for example ASO in CSS/MEA, CBIC inspectors, Tax Assistants) need a higher CKT or DEST standard.
- Post preference matters: SSC allocates posts by merit-cum-preference, so the same score can land different posts for different preference lists.
What will decide the SSC CGL 2026 cut-off
- Vacancies: 10,731 tentative for 2026 (24.09.2026), against 15,118 filled in 2025. Final 2026 vacancies may change.
- Number of candidates: more than 28 lakh applied for CGL 2026 by 22.06.2026; about 13.5 lakh appeared in Tier-I 2025 out of about 28 lakh applicants.
- Paper level: candidates rated most 2026 shifts moderate (paper analysis), with the new 15-minute sectional timer.
