UP TGT 2026 has a new pattern and a new syllabus, so earlier strategies need adjusting. This plan follows the official structure of 30 general knowledge and 90 subject questions. Keep the official 2026 syllabus of your subject open while you plan.

Step 1: know where the marks are

The subject paper decides most of the result. General knowledge is still worth 90 marks, and its syllabus is short and common to all, so steady daily revision pays off.

Step 2: a 50-day plan

1–20	Go through every unit of the 2026 syllabus once; make short notes of formulas, facts and definitions	Indian polity and history; current affairs from January 2026

Step 3: subject-specific tips

Hindi: the syllabus includes Sanskrit literature, sandhi, samas, shabd roop and dhatu roop. Do not leave the Sanskrit section.
Social Science: four parts (geography, history, civics, economics). Strengthen the two you did not study in graduation.
Science: physics and chemistry only, up to graduation level. Numerical questions in mechanics and physical chemistry take time, so practise them timed.
Mathematics: graduation-level topics such as real analysis, groups and three-dimensional geometry are in the syllabus alongside school algebra and calculus.
English: grammar and comprehension are scoring; the literature part names six authors (Shakespeare, Milton, Wordsworth, Keats, Galsworthy and Orwell).

Step 4: handle negative marking

A blind guess among four options has an expected value of zero (+3 × 0.25 − 1 × 0.75).
If you can rule out one option, a guess is worth +0.33 marks on average; with two ruled out, +1 mark.
Track your accuracy in every mock test. If it falls below about 70%, slow down and attempt fewer questions.

Step 5: exam-ready checklist

Check that your form and fee are complete by 23 November 2026 and correct mistakes by 26 November.
Watch for the exam district around 13 December and the admit card around 20 December.
Practise on the specimen OMR sheet from the UPESSC website.
Carry a black ballpoint pen; no other mark should touch the OMR bubbles.
