UP TGT Eligibility 2026: Subject-wise Qualification, TET Rule and Age Limit

UP TGT eligibility 2026 in brief

  • Degree: graduation in the subject with at least 50% marks, or a postgraduate degree with at least 45%.
  • Training: B.Ed from an NCTE-recognised course (B.P.Ed or B.P.E. for physical education).
  • TET: pass in the upper primary (classes 6 to 8) teacher eligibility test of the UP Government or the Government of India. This is new for 2026.
  • Age: at least 21 on 1 July 2026; not over 62 on that date.

Each of the 17 subjects of UPESSC Advertisement No. 07/2026 has its own qualification, set out in para 7 of the advertisement. Three conditions are common to all: a degree with the required marks, a teacher training degree and an upper primary TET pass. The advertisement adds that the Commission does not advise candidates individually on eligibility, so read the official text before applying.

TET is now compulsory for UP TGT

In earlier TGT advertisements, graduation and a B.Ed were enough. Advertisement No. 07/2026 adds a third condition for every subject: a pass in the teacher eligibility test for the upper primary level (classes 6 to 8) conducted by the UP Government or the Government of India. UPTET (upper primary level) and CTET Paper II are the usual examples. The TET certificate is also on the list of documents for verification (para 14.5).

The advertisement also notes (para 7, note): “अभ्यर्थी के पास दिनांक 30-06-2027 तक सम्बन्धित पद हेतु निर्धारित शैक्षिक पात्रता परीक्षा उत्तीर्ण करने का वैध प्रमाण-पत्र होना अनिवार्य होगा।” Read this with para 2.9, which says all essential qualifications must be held by the last date of application.
