UP TGT syllabus 2026 in brief
- The paper has 30 general knowledge questions (same for every subject) and 90 subject questions.

UPESSC lists the TGT syllabus on its syllabus page under Secondary Education, marked आयोग द्वारा 2026 से आगामी परीक्षाओं हेतु प्रभावी पाठ्यक्रम (syllabus effective for the Commission’s exams from 2026). The same site still shows the old syllabus for several subjects, so make sure you study from the 2026 file. Para 9(ख) of Advertisement No. 07/2026 refers candidates to this syllabus.

History of Hindi literature (Adikal to Nayi Kavita); development of Hindi prose; writers and their works; rasa, chhand, alankar, kavya gun and dosh; dialects, Devanagari and standardisation; grammar (sandhi, samas, karak, vakya shuddhi, paryayvachi, vilom, muhavare, lokoktiyan); Sanskrit literature, sandhi, samas, shabd and dhatu roop, translation.

Physics: mechanics, heat and thermodynamics, waves and oscillations, optics, electricity and magnetism, modern physics. Chemistry: matter, atomic structure, chemical bonding, radioactivity, reactions, electrochemistry, periodic table, general organic chemistry, isomerism and organic compounds.

How to read the new syllabus
- Subject syllabi go up to graduation level. Mathematics, for example, includes real analysis, group theory and three-dimensional geometry, and Science covers physics and chemistry up to modern physics and organic chemistry.
- The Science paper covers physics and chemistry; Biology (zoology and botany) is a separate subject with its own posts.
- Social Science has four parts: geography, history, civics and economics. Graduates usually know two of these well and need to build the other two.
- Hindi includes a Sanskrit literature and grammar section, which matches the rule that Hindi candidates must have studied Sanskrit at Intermediate level.
- General knowledge includes education-related topics: constitutional provisions on education and developments in educational technology.
